Norma and Donna were a lot like Thelma and Louise. They were two peas in a pod. Always together, always looking out for each other, always looking for trouble. Until one faithful night when everything changed. Donna decided to get behind the wheel, very much intoxicated and when she did she got into a bad accident and lost her life.
Her young 6 month old Charlie is now in Norma’s custody along with her husband Sam. They now have an extra mouth to feed and Norma is not too thrilled about the idea. No one in Donna’s family can take him so Norma and Sam by be the only hope for little Charlie.
The aftermath of hurricane Katrina is the backdrop for this short story. I believe that the author wrote a compelling piece as it takes us through “real life” and the struggles that everyone has and how even after all of the life goes on, even when it seems impossible.
